Herbals and Supplements

There are countless herbal treatments and supplements available.
Many contain Saw Palmetto, which has been shown to block androgen effects on the prostate in men. There is no proven evidence that Saw palmetto helps fight hair loss and there is certainly no proof for women but many believe it to be similar to but weaker than other anti-androgens.
Many herbal treatments have actually been found to contain Minoxidil. There are a number of combination treatments that contain Saw Palmetto and Minoxidil and other ingredients.
Herbal medicines are not inherently safer than synthetic medicines. Just as there can be effective and ineffective, safe and risky medications, there can be effective and ineffective, safe and risky herbal medications. If something can produce a positive effect on the body it can also produce a negative effect. Some of our deadliest poisons have natural sources.
There currently is no good evidence that vitamin, nutrient , or mineral supplements help fight hair loss.
There may be some herbal medications and supplements that are effective but there are likely many others that are not effective. Hopefully scientific studies will be conducted and will provide evidence one way or the other.
For now, there are no specific herbal medications or supplements that we can recommend.
