Hair transplantation works very well for people of any age. Hair loss can be particularly distressing for young women. When someone is a young adult and would like hair transplantation, long-term planning is critical for two reasons.
First, it is unfortunately true that the earlier one starts to lose their hair the more time they have to lose more hair. Women who have thin hair when they are young may have very thin hair when they are older.
Second, younger women tend to have much higher expectations than women in their 40’s to 60’s. This is completely understandable because young women compare themselves to their friends who are also young women. Often young women will have few if any friends who have thinning hair whereas women in their 40s to 60s will have friends who are also thinning.
People have a finite, limited supply of donor hair. At present we cannot create any more hair, we can just redistribute your long-lasting existing donor hair. The proper goal for hair transplantation, especially for someone who may one day be very thin, is to concentrate the hair in the most visible areas and to use that hair to layer over other thin areas. We cannot provide a full head of transplanted hair to someone who has or will have extensive thinning but we can provide a significant improvement, especially when someone looks you in the eye or you look in the mirror or you have a photograph taken.
If a young woman understands all this and has realistic expectations and agrees to a conservative long-term plan, we will perform a hair transplant for them.BACK
